Breakthrough HID electronic ballast brings auto-dimming to outdoor lighting
New standalone product lowers energy cost of outdoor HID lighting by more than 50%

MONTREAL - January 31, 2007 - Compucharge Inc, the world leader in energy-efficient
electronic ballast technology - today announced the general availability of a wide
range of Auto-DimŽ electronic ballasts designed for the outdoor HID lighting
marketplace. These affordable products uniquely enable rapid deployment within
existing HID lighting infrastructures by extending the features of our normal energy
saving HID electronic ballasts with the unique capability to pre-program a timetable
of custom brightness settings which are then automatically set throughout the night.
When operating HID lights at full brightness, Compucharge Auto-DimŽ electronic
ballasts already use 30% less energy than traditional magnetic ballasts. But now,
with a standard application of automatic dimming, the new Auto-DimŽ ballasts can
deliver total energy savings exceeding 50%. A popular usage example of dimmed
street lighting would see the HID light set to full brilliance for the first three
hours after the photo-cell switches on, drop to 66% for the next three hours and
then drop all the way to 50% through the low use period of the night. These
standard settings combine for a total energy savings of over 50%.

The Compucharge Auto-DimŽ electronic ballast can be directly installed into existing
HID street lights that previously housed magnetic ballasts and forgotten; there is
no need for any type of costly external communication system to control the dimming
process. This process is so streamlined that Compucharge Auto-DimŽ electronic
ballasts may be immediately introduced as retrofit of existing magnetic ballast
deployments. Regular maintenance calls to replace defective magnetic ballasts can
instead upgrade to the new Auto-DimŽ electronic ballasts within the same call-time.
These products substantially reduce overall maintenance costs by doubling expected
lamp life and eliminating the need for external capacitor's and igniter's.
Compucharge Auto-DimŽ electronic ballasts are at the forefront of energy
conservation and environmental initiatives. Even in regions with relatively
inexpensive energy costs, the Compucharge Auto-DimŽ electronic ballasts will pay for
themselves based on saved energy costs within less than three years of deployment,
